JUL BROWNSTONE BUSINESS INSTITUTE OFFERS FREE CLASSES TO HELP LOCAL BUSINESSES GROW
CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) –
Small and minority businesses can enroll in free classes to help them land big contracts, like with the new MUSC Children’s hospital.
The program is put on by the Brownstone Business Institute in North Charleston. It’s for small and minority businesses in Charleston Country.
“Being a small business you attend a lot of networking events and you’re really trying to get your name out there for people to know about your business,” says business owner Regina Robinson.
Robinson is President and CEO of Buckets, a professional cleaning company. She’s looking to grow her business so she enrolled in the Brownstone Business Institute.
“Learning the technical aspects of completing bids and submitting the proposal appropriate, there’s a lot of steps and a lot of layers in that part, so that learning curve has been much bigger,” says Robinson.
Brownstone Project Manager Bobby Teachey II wants to cut down on that learning curve.
“What we want to try to do is bridge that gap between small companies and big companies by helping the small companies not only find an opportunity, but then also how to do business better,” says Teachey.
The 8 week program will teach local business owners everything from how to submit a successful bid to risk management.
“How to manage your contract how do you do safety, rigging, securing the site also the contracts portion,” says Teachey. “Then also business etiquette and marketing, we find that is the biggest thing that always helps you first get your foot in the door to find the work.”
With the new MUSC Children’s hospital coming in 2019 there will be numerous opportunities for contracts with local businesses. Teachey says this course is preparation for that and other future projects.
“When you get done with the institute, you will be more than qualified to be able to come and bid the project at MUSC,” says Teachey.
“We’re always looking for opportunities for growth and we’re hoping to be on and part of that amazing project,” says Robinson.
Businesses can enroll in the institute up to Tuesday August 11, the first day of classes. Classes will be held at Charleston Southern University from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
